<image:caption>CENTERFOLDS (2016) A new work by Lucy Marinkovich for the Footnote New Zealand Dance Company NOW Season. Exploring the power and dynamics of female-only communities/collectives/groups/species/and societies, Centerfolds employs of series of shifting vignettes to examine the instability of gender stereotyping. Dancers: Emma Dellabarca Jared Hemopo Lana Phillips Brydie Colquhoun Jeremy Beck   "Centrefolds by Lucy Marinkovich delves into the sensitive world of gender politics using humour and multiple costume changes to skewer female stereotypes. Ms Marinkovich continues her exploration of the absurd seen in her earlier works." Jenny Stevenson, DANZ Magazine. "Centrefolds was a study of gender and its inherent meaninglessness. This was a really fun piece – I know that's not very sophisticated language but it was just fun to watch." Hannah Molloy, Theatreview. "Lucy Marinkovich's sassy Centrefolds is an upbeat study of gender stereotyping and 'women-dominant collectives". With a cast of five, two of whom are male and one in possession of a pair of very manly calves and a burly torso, there are inevitable moments of hilarity." <image:title>Good Good Fortune - Good Good Fortune (Singapore, 2016)</image:title>
<image:caption>Good Good Fortune - INSTINC Art Gallery, Singapore (2016) Good Good Fortune is a live performance installation that engages the audience in a reflection upon the role of fortune in our lives, and considers our agency in creating our own experiences and circumstances. The performance process advocates both conscientious decision-making and intuitive reaction. Audience members are individually led through a series of game play, questions, chance activities, and instinctive response that ultimately lead them to the selection of their personal “fortune”. The contentious duality of fate and free-will is at the core of this fortune cookie performance experiment that questions, like Sophocles’ Oedipus, if your fate is predetermined and inescapable, or whether autonomy and indeterminism allow you to choose your own fortune?   Good Good Fortune was first conceived during an artist residency attended by Lucy Marinkovich at INSTINC Singapore Art Gallery throughout March/April 2016, and performed again in the 2017 Performance Arcade Festival in Wellington, New Zealand. She was inspired to make this work after a rereading of Sophocle’s Oedipus Rex and the impossible binary of fate and free will that the play’s tragic hero was subject to. At the core of this work lies an enquiry about the ways in which we consider ourselves to be fortunate or misfortunate, and the significance or misrepresentation of luck across our diverse societies and cultures. Good Good Fortune is an immersive and interactive performance art piece. This residency was made possible through the support of the Asia New Zealand Foundation Arts Grants and the Creative New Zealand Tup Lang Choreographic Award and the Wellington season was made possible thanks to the Wellington City Council Public Art Fund. Special thanks to Monica Turner, Shih Yun Yeo, Eunice Lim, and Sam Trubridge.   Photography: Shih Yun Yeo  </image:caption>
